Ohio and federal tax deadlines you should know.
Here are the main federal and Ohio tax deadlines for the 2026 tax year. Deadlines can shift when a date falls on a weekend or holiday, so always confirm the current-year date before you rely on it - or just ask us.
| Deadline | Date | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Federal individual filing deadline | April 15, 2026 | File and pay your 2025 federal individual tax return, or file for an extension. |
| Ohio individual filing deadline | April 15, 2026 | Ohio individual income tax returns generally follow the same deadline as federal returns. |
| Q1 2026 estimated tax payment | April 15, 2026 | First quarterly payment for income not covered by withholding (self-employment, gig work, rental income, etc.). |
| Q2 2026 estimated tax payment | June 15, 2026 | Second quarterly estimated tax payment. |
| Q3 2026 estimated tax payment | September 15, 2026 | Third quarterly estimated tax payment. |
| Q4 2026 estimated tax payment | January 15, 2027 | Fourth and final estimated tax payment for the 2026 tax year. |
| Federal and Ohio extended filing deadline | October 15, 2026 | If you filed IRS Form 4868 by April 15, 2026, this is your new deadline to file your return. Ohio automatically follows the federal extension. This is an extension to file, not an extension to pay - any tax owed was still due April 15. |
These dates are for individual filers in the most common situations. Some business entity types, like partnerships and S corporations, have earlier deadlines (mid-March). If that's you, ask us and we'll confirm the right date for your entity.
